Some ways to keep goods moisture-free

Introduction

Desiccants play an important role in the shipping industry. They help protect the merchandise being transported in ships against humidity. The goods are usually kept in boxes/packages and there is a fairly high chance that moisture can enter the packed space and spoil the contents. This is where the role of absorbers like cargo dry pak and desiccant unit pak become important. These desiccants are specially made for ship cargo and can keep the packed products vapour-free for the entire ship journey, which can last quite some days.

Effects of Changing Climates

Goods being transported in ships are susceptible to high levels of moisture for many days together as it takes a long time to reach their destination. The time taken may be weeks or several months. In such a scenario, it becomes highly important to keep the goods away from moisture as the latter will damage them and this in turn will lead to heavy losses. When one decides to transport goods by ship, the changing climate conditions of a sea route and their subsequent effect on the merchandise being transported must always be taken into consideration. The changing climate outside will cause condensation inside the boxes, thus putting the goods in danger.

Ship journeys are usually very long and if condensation takes place, then lot of moisture has to be withdrawn from the boxes. Other instances of humidity entering packed products happen when the container is not closed properly, thus provide an inlet for air and moisture.

Benefits of Using Cargo Dry Pak in Ship Containers

There are many advantages of using desiccants like cargo dry pak while transporting goods via ships. These include:

1)      The desiccant can absorb almost all the atmospheric moisture present in the head of the package.
2)      As ship journeys take up a really long time, desiccants are widely used as they can keep goods fresh for more than 50 days at a stretch.
3)      These desiccants offer protection against all types of rust, mildew and corrosion, which can prove to be very harmful to the packaged products.
4)      Desiccants like cargo dry pak are 100% environmental friendly and hence very safe for the environment. After their use, these moisture absorbers can be disposed of very easily and in a non-hazardous manner.
5)      Other than ships, these desiccants are also used to keep products fresh while they are transported using other mediums like rail, air, ocean and trucks.
Viewing all the above-mentioned points, one can understand why container desiccants are so popular in the shipping industry.
