Molecular Sieves For Gas Separation And Purification

Introduction Of Molecular Sieves:

The molecular sieve is said to be a manufactured crystal which is highly used to separate molecules of a specific size from the gaseous or liquid mixture. Prominently used in chemical manufacturing and petroleum refining industries, molecular sieves are also used to separate and purify gases. In addition, the molecular sieves are deployed for various applications. They are manufactured based on the customer specifications and are available in different porosities and sizes.

They are available in the form of pellets and beats and provide a great way of purifying gases with the help of a reliable purification process. Molecular sieves come with high water adsorption capacity, high mass transmission, strong crushing structure and more durability that silica gel and activated alumina desiccant.

Process For Gas Separation With Molecular Sieves:

The dew point of gases rises significantly in the presence of moisture. This inevitably makes gases freeze at the time of processes like liquefaction, transportation and cryogenic separation. In addition, hydrocarbons will be formed and isolated which results in the blocking of pipeline and equipment. The moisture has the tendency to react with carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and other gases present in the gas mixture. As a result, both equipments and pipeline will be corroded. Profound dehydration and desiccation for natural gas with the help of molecular sieves is the widest application and mostly used technique. If the separated gas does not meet the required standard, it will be subjected to purification by using dedicated molecular sieves to remove the impurities present in the sole natural gas.

How To Purify Oxygen With Molecular Sieves?

Molecular sieves are widely used as a catalyst to separate and purify oxygen from other gases to acquire the purest form of oxygen. The refinement task is done to ensure maiximum purification of oxygen by using advanced PSA technology. 13 x molecular sieves is available in the form of beads and pellets and is widely used in purifying oxygen through PSA oxygen generation process. The purified oxygen is used in health care field where the patients are not able to inhale oxygen from the atmosphere.

An air compressor is deployed to condense the atmosphere air. Then the air is

dried and filtered with the air dryer before stepping into PSA process. Then the major process of adsorption and production of pure oxygen is begun. The PSA process removes impurities and unwanted gases such as argon, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. The atmosphere air is passed through the vessel containing molecular sieve of x crystal structure which absorbs unwanted gases and passes the majority of the oxygen. This process is repeated until the complete exhaustion of molecular sieves to obtain the highest percentage of purest oxygen.
